The sights of Kaunas New Town is equally interesting, giving you a hint about the life in times of Kaunas Guberniya. This period is represented by the buildings nearby the Laisvės Alley and the remains of late 19th-early 20th century fortification sights No. 6, 7 and 9 on the outskirts of Kaunas.
Pažaislis Monastery complex near Kaunas – one of the most beautiful architectural sights in Kaunas and the whole country. It fascinates the visitors by its unique Baroque architecture and spiritual feeling. In the 17th century, as the monastery was being built, the most famous Italian architects, painters and sculpture artists were working in this exact place, in the middle of Lithuanian forests. 1919-1940, the years of Kaunas being the temporary capital of Lithuania changed the city a lot – number of modern buildings (mostly of functionalist and rationalist schools) was built in the central part of Kaunas.
