Vilnius is the capital of Lithuania, situated on the cultural boundary between to cultures and religious traditions – Byzantine and Latin. The city was founded in the beginning of 14th century, as a town of Lithuanian Grand Duchy (LDK) that incorporated a number of neighboring lands. For these reasons, Vilnius has always been home for people from many cultural and religious backgrounds. Nowadays, a number of architectural sights in Vilnius Old Town remind us about those times. In 1994, Vilnius Old Town was nominated preserved area status by UNESCO. This area is distinct due to its vast territory and Baroque style architecture.
